Day 3 - Jardin Botanique
Today I wanted to find ITU building that I am supposed to go to tomorrow. Well, it is 327 meters away from my house. Of course, I missed the turn to Rue de Varembé first, and instead of taking 2.5 minutes it took me about 7 minutes to get there... Oh well :) I took Rue de Vermont all the way down to Rue du Vidollet, which is about 3 times farther away than Varembé.
After that I went to Place des Nations (where many of the UN buildings are), but it's severely under construction. The chair is gone. From there I wondered down Avenue de la Paix (I didn't know what it was at the time) past Palais des Nations (which you can't really see behind the gates and the trees). Turns out, Jardin Botanique was only 5 minutes down the road. I have never been known to avoid botanical gardens, and this one is definitely one of the best I have seen so far!
I bumped into my landlord there (or, to be exact, he bumped into me), and he showed me the tunnel (!!) that goes under Rue de Lausanne to the park by the Lake. Not sure if it still is a part of Jardin Botanique once you go through the tunnel - probably not. Oh yeah, they have loupes on the walls that let you see different types of mold that grow inside the tunnel!!!
Anyway, from there we went down to Quai Wilson - it took us only 10 or 15 minutes. He left, and I hung out at the Lake for a while... Little did I know that I was getting sunburn!
I didn't feel like going back to the Old Town again, so I took Quai du Mont-Blanc and then Quai des Bergues to Pont de la Machine. I am going to have to find out the origin of the name of this bridge...
I started walking away from the river in the general direction of home... I wasn't keeping track of exact street names - at some point I was on Rue de la Servette, but then I veered into some small side streets that were not on my map. Somehow, however, I ended up back where I started - on Varembé. It's impossible to get lost in this city!
I fought a little more with my wireless at home, but the only network my card was picking up kept dropping the connection. So I took my laptop and went down to the court-yard. At least 10 networks! I love Swiss! Clearly, most have never heard of securing their WiFi!
I was sitting there messing with the CSS for the Photologue, and two little girls were playing with a ball next to me. I swear they were making fun of me in their weird language. How come they are so young and can already speak French!

If you like things painted on walls, go to Lyon! They have trompe l'oeil murals on walls all over town.
