Day 16 - France

I went to France!

I got an email from Geneva Intern Network about a hiking trip to a nearby mountain, Salève. Salève is in France, but it’s only a 15-minute bus ride from my apartment… I was a little concerned about not being able to get into France. Well, the border patrol guys ignored us completely. Apparently, a bunch of interns with backpacks do not look like they would be a danger to French society.

Mount Salève is only about 1100 meters above the sea level (which makes it about 700 meters above Geneva), but let me tell you – going up is hard! I must be out of shape… as were most of us. We took plenty of breaks, and finally made it to the very top in about 3 hours. We did get lost a little bit a few times.

France looks very pretty from the top. So does Switzerland. Not that you can tell where one ends and the other begins. Of course, you can still see the Fountain :)

Most of us were way too tired to walk back, so we took Telepherique down. Pretty strange feeling…

Hiking was great, but it didn’t completely satisfy our need for adventure for the day, so later at night we went to a free concert down in Carouge. A couple of dozen of French bands, thousands of Swiss people. French hip-hop rules! Forget Usher, MC Solare is oh so hot! Well, actually there were three guys hip-hopping (hipping and hopping?) together, so I am still not sure which one was MC Solare. I didn’t understand a word but they appeared to be very persuasive.

I am so jealous of your exciting summer. I just sit around all day and watch tv. The scenery is so beautiful! I want to go hiking.
